Kirsten Wilmink, Amsterdam – Feature Shoot

Kirsten Wilmink recently graduated from the ArtEZ AKI Academy of Visual Arts in Photographic Design and is continuing her studies at the Sandberg Institute in Amsterdam. As a cross media designer Wilmink’s main focus is staged photography. Her graduation project, The Truth About Germans, depicts stereotypes and the existing prejudices about German people in which she used her own family members as models.

Good idea, utterly terrible execution. It’s like a bad dream of HDR and the Dave Hill look meets Strobist.

We have seen this work in real live: big prints, impressive art with lots of humor. I just love it!

Ed Hamlin: Foster is a liar. He has eliminated one stream of content requiring a budget (paying a photographer for his work)for one that doesn’t require a budget (doesn’t pay anyone since people are willing to give it away for free). Citizen provided content is not journalism. Unless they are rewriting the definition of journalism in Webster’s. What a shame.
Ed Hamlin: May be a possibility, however it make me feel like I am giving away what I do. How about a car mechanic discounting what he does by 90% and then keep a roof over his head. People don’t value photographers like they do other industries. So what someone can snap an accident scene or other event that will be in peoples mind for a few minutes. How about their ability to see a story and create it visually. How sensitive are other photographers to the subject of very low pricing for what they do?
Chicago Photographer: Hard to believe that Kodak who basically invented the digital camera was never able to capitalize on it’s products. It’s patents are worth tons of money, but it failed in producing products that used the technology
