In 1973 she was told that the authorities had agreed to release her in recognition of an “improvement in her way of thinking and an attitude of repentance.” She refused to leave and vowed to stay in prison until the government declared her innocent and issued an apology in the press.

What a brave, smart and dignified lady. Through all her suffering and loss while being tortured for six years, she held to her principles and lived to tell the story and expose the evil she so bravely fought against. It is a shame her daughter , murdered by the red quards, could not have been with her in her old age. God Bless you Nien Cheng
