Funny I just looked at the series over at magnum and you knowimmediately the images that are presented blatently in poor taste. It may be that Larry Towell has that fault that stands out in todays view of expose women, no matter the race. To say that it was artful or good photo journalism is a line of BS.

Hah. True, I did enjoy it.

I just think that by bringing attention to these uninformed rants, it validates them in a twisted way.

I am not saying they should be ignored, but these internet stars are just looking for some attention, attempting to stir the pot.

But hey, thats what the internet is for, I guess it is up to me to decide where to click.

But yeah, I still like your blog. I used to follow fly on the wall religiously when I was just starting.

Haven't published anymore skinhead photos yet, I will let you know when I do.

My linking to an article here is never an endorsement of its position. Readers should form their own opinions.

I see the "Larry Towell needs an ass-kicking" post as part of a trend that really picked up during the 2006 Lebanon war and has flared up again with Haiti, where people are voicing critical opinions of photojournalism. Such criticisms should be faced head on, and it's pretty cowardly that the "hack" does not allow comments on his post so there could be a response to his inflammatory post.

As for the "Flickr photographer", are you saying you didn't enjoy the following line from the linked post?

Jay, you’re nothing but a quitter. And a whiner. And a drama queen. And that’s coming from someone who’s been accused of being the king of drama queens.

There's one distinction I make-- Safari, while it can display porn, doesn't come with anything that points you towards it without you first giving it direction. It's highly unlikely that something on Apple's pre-set homepage will lead you that direction.

On the other hand, depending on how the app catalog is managed, it'd be very easy to run across something that sparks curiosity-- whether it's a suggestive app category or an explicit app that happens to fall in one of the "top" rankings.

Having worked as a TV news reporter I found Charlie's piece very amusing - some of us have long believed reporting like this is a rubbish way to do things!

But even if a journalist wants to tell stories in a more authentic and engaging way, the constraints of the so-called "house style" in many news organisations make it difficult to achieve.

What's needed is a massive culture shift and a complete re-think of what we understand quality broadcast news reporting is.

And guess what? That's exactly what's happening, though you'd never believe it from what we're still mostly seeing on TV.

Anyway, the new digital technologies, and shake up of "old school/old mainstream" journalism means new platforms and styles of "news" storytelling can now emerge.

Let's hope fresh and appropriate ways of funding appear too, so we can kill off this dreadful formulaic reporting and delivery, and clear the way for more natural and interesting ways to treat stories and content.

Much love,

Winograd photographed, to paraphrase him, to see what the photograph would look like. Simple. This art critic is confused because of his western art critic approach. An eastern philosopher would have no trouble accepting Winograd's koan like statement and the unity of his body of work under that concept.
