I got the idea for building this after editing my shots of Nadja Leuenberger competing in the World Cup Aerials at Deer Valley. Leuenberger didn’t place very high, but I had a great sequence— forty photographs of her second jump of the event, spinning, landing and crashing.
From its inception, our editors and creative director have seen PDN’s 30 as an opportunity to get to know the work of photographers we look forward to writing for and about for many years to come—and this certainly isn’t limited to the 30 photographers we select for each issue. This year, for example, we made our selection from more than 300 nominees.
We’re pleased to let you know that the second book in our “Books We Love” series is Ji Lee’s Talk Back: The Bubble Project which came out from Mark Batty publisher in 2006.
“They want the amount of print you would find on a cereal box, which is what you get online,” said Mike Pearson, 49, a features writer and editor for The Rocky for 21 years.
“They want headlines only and graphs that summarize everything without going into a lot of analysis. And they feel entitled to even the most complex and sophisticated news coverage for free.”

By midmorning, hundreds of angry people were blocking the nearby highway, burning tires and shouting “Death to America!” By mid-evening, millions of Afghan TV news viewers were convinced that foreign troops had killed an unarmed man trying to answer his door.

The father-daughter dance was so sweet. Community journalism warms my heart.
I am convinced that by just about any measure (except price) this is the most outstanding 35mm format DSLR yet. Build quality, image quality – you name it. No, it’s not the fastest shooting, and no it doesn’t have cleanest high ISO capability of any Nikon – its sister the D3 wears that crown. But other than with these specialized capabilities there’s hardly a camera on the market that can touch the Nikon D3x in overall goodness – except when it comes to price.

This is an ongoing project I have been working on. The project
involves taking upwards of 150 to 200 images with a macro lens and
then putting them back together again.

The Magnum Expression Photography Award was established by Magnum Photos and HP with the goal of raising awareness and inspiring change through campaigns using photography as an expressive medium. Its mission is to discover and illuminate compelling documentary photography employed in innovative ways to affect social awareness and propel humanitarian compassion.
The inaugural theme for the award is Communities.

This post has been long overdue. Fitting I write about this on the day one of America’s best newspapers, the Rocky Mountain News, published it’s final edition. The economy and the newspaper business is in utter turmoil.
Last month, I found myself on the wrong end of an involuntary staff reduction. I’ve got nothing to hang my head about. I’m happy with the work I did during my time here at the FLS. It came down to decisions and circumstances far out of my control. Sadly, I’ve witnessed many talented friends, colleagues and scores of people I’ve never met finding themselves in the same position.
