“Exploring the mendacity of memory and its relation to youth” through nostalgia-filled portraiture of rural Idaho’s innocent and imaginative next generation

For the past nine years, I have photographed my younger sisters and cousins growing up, as I once did, in Idaho’s dust-filled air. Through them, I am exploring the mendacity of memory and its relation to youth. My memories have blended with my family’s reality, as I have watched them grow up in the same dark fields—their bodies changing against a deceptively latent landscape. Their interactions with the land, fantasies and illusions, and the silence as their identities unfold are all distant and familiar to me.
