When an influx of South Sudanese refugees were resettled in a small Sydney suburb, Conor Ashleigh began to document how his new neighbors adjusted to life in Australia.

Conor Ashleigh grew up in Newcastle, Australia, just north of Sydney, which he described as a typical Australian suburb: not very diverse. But in 2004, the first of many South Sudanese families seeking refuge from a 22-year civil war and a floundering independence movement moved into his neighborhood.
