A year ago, Pete Marovich began noticing articles boasting about a Pittsburgh “resurgence.” He knew these pieces weren’t telling the whole story. His family grew up in Aliquippa, Pa., a decaying former steel town 20 miles from the city. In towns like it — basically a river’s crossing from Pittsburgh — no renaissance is happening. Not much of anything is happening.
