Hubert Henrotte! He is one of the mythical names in the history of photojournalism! He too was swept away by the drastic technological changes of the 2000s. Today, he is publishing his beautifully titled book: Can photojournalime save the press? He asked us to publish this excerpt: the interview by Clément Thiery.

The fifty years of Gamma – The Eye of Photography

In December 1966, four photographers, Hubert Henrotte, Raymond Depardon, Hugues Vassal, Léonard de Raemyand an agent, Jean Monteux, ready for a new adventure decided to launch  a photographers’ agency where everyone worked on a 50-50 basis . The photographers, shareholders or colleagues shared half of the income from the sales of their reporting and half of the costs of production. Five months later, Gilles Caron joined the young staff.

On May 13 you published an investigation by Michel Puech into the history of Gamma/Sygma. According to my European rights of reply, I ask that you publish this letter within 48 hours. Grave mistakes were made by the people interviewed, and by Michel Puech. I cannot allow them to stand because some of them have caused me great offense.
