March 5, 2018, was a day that I’ve waited many years to see: Time magazine relegated words to a mere support role, there to illustrate the photographs and to provide graphic relief between the images. “The Opioid Diaries” is an extended photographic exploration by James Nachtwey for which the magazine cleared all impediments including the elimination of advertisements.
