The new crop of world press winners is out and as in every year many reflections come to mind.
Reminiscent of Eugene Smith’s Tomoko Uemura in Her Bath , the winning image, from Spanish photographer Samuel Aranda lacks all the required W’s that makes a great news photograph. By looking at it, you have no idea who,where, when, or why this picture was taken. It’s only after a required reading that you finally find out. Then you can return to the image. But even after, it is hard to connect. Mostly because there is a total lack of visible faces, making it hard to understand the feelings.tagged Samuel Arandain Contests -

Two Wars, Seen Many Ways
Originally conceived as a fund-raiser for Joao Silva, “Conflict Zone” — which opens in New York on Friday — has become a collaborative effort to show the humanity in war. The New York show is dedicated to Chris Hondros, who believed in photographing shared human experiences.

While the law no longer has language specifically addressing photography or video recording, both opponents and supporters of the law say that its intent is to prevent videos of farm operations from being made. Under the law, fraudulently entering a farm would be punishable by up to 1 year in prison and a $1,500 fine.

The Delta images have been created for a book titled “New Delta Rising”, distributed by the University Press of Mississippi. The photographs are the result of nine trips to the Delta over two years, a total of 12 weeks and more than 10,000 miles in search of people and their stories.
