Photographer Tim Hetherington (1970-2011) visited India and Sri Lanka with Christian Aid. His work featured in our one-year anniversary exhibition ‘Every time I see the sea’. Tim’s thoughtful and emotional images captured the mood of a coastal community learning to trust again.
I took pictures of unfamiliar places, pictures of strangers.

The Monography Series Award Nikon-Bozar recognizes the work of a Belgian photographer with a solo exhibition at the Palais des Beaux-Arts. From the 120 submissions, the jury selected the work of Titus Simoens (b. 1985 in Gand). Simoens’ series Mount Song was shot in 2013 in a kung-fu academy in the Chinese province of Henan. Over the course of 7 weeks, Simoens photographed the daily life of children in this secluded and disciplined community. The photographer blended into the background, becoming almost invisible, which gave him the opportunity to take incredible photographs.
“The world is not a tidy place,” said the American photographer Garry Winogrand. “It’s a mess. I never try to put it in order.” His photographs seem to exist in a kind of unstable equilibrium. It shifts and seethes within the frame, pushing at its edges. The figures laugh and shout, their glances sharp as knives. Even the horizon is crooked. It’s as if life itself was crammed into a small rectangular frame:
