In the 1950s, Magnum created portfolios for “Generation X.” As a group project every photographer was tasked with portraying the new generation in the country he was visiting. The selected individuals were each interviewed using the same questionnaire, herein creating a fascinating portrait of a future generation. “Generation X” was then published throughout the world and the phrase became a universally used term used to describe a particular generation of people.

No matter what kind of upgrades its team rolls out, Flickr can’t be “awesome again” as long as it’s a ghost town. It’s not that Flickr needs more features, per se. It’s not going to take off thanks to a great lightbox, or brilliantly displayed EXIF data, or amazing slideshow features. Those things are nice. But what makes it awesome is people.

It seems a little incongruous for a company that wants to be all about professional photography to get in the business of supporting photo enthusiasts and specifically going after the “Mom’s With A Camera” group. But, I guess that’s what happens when you have a corporate mother ship hovering over you.

A nonprofit collective of dedicated photojournalists and writers came together to explore America and to build a forum to chart its future. They called the final project, “Facing Change: Documenting America”, and drew inspiration from the Farm Security Administration during the Great Depression, which documented the various issues facing the nation at that time through the people the issues were affecting.

I love the V1! It’s dynamite in a small package. It’s fast, responsive, has almost clairvoyant auto focus (really) and has a powerful processor. But most of all, it’s incredibly fun to shoot with! Fun, isn’t that why we all take photos? Since purchasing mine in March 2012, I’ve taken more than 13,000 photos with it. It hasn’t blinked, flinched, misfired or failed me once. It has served me well so far and I love it. I can honestly say it’s my favorite digital camera to date bar none, and I’ve owned and used many, many different digital cameras since 2000 when I want completely digital for work.
