I noticed in the xxxxx Ski supplement to the xxxxx News, an image showing the piste in xxxxxx Ski Area with various skiers coming down and in the middle a very noticeable skier wearing a bright red ski suit.
On closer inspection I noted this individual is me, and no permission was sought nor given for this. I have consulted my solicitor and he has advised me to write to you to ask for payment.

World Press Photo, a non-profit organization based in the Netherlands, recently announced the winners of its 2012 photojournalism contest. More than 5,000 photographers from 124 countries submitted over 100,000 pictures to the competition. Top honors this year went to Samuel Aranda for his image of a woman holding a wounded relative during protests in Yemen. The prize-winning photographs will be assembled into an exhibition that will travel to 45 countries over the next year. It’s probably no coincidence that Kodak sensors are in all three of those Leica models (listed just above) and that both companies have chosen to make cameras without AA filters. I’ve never asked Leica about the following but I can imagine some early prototype tests in which an AA filter was included in a DMR test mule. I then imagine the optical design team, in particular, being rather aghast at what that filter had done to the fine resolution delivered by their lenses. Leica lenses, as a rule, are quite expensive and a great amount of time and money goes into tweaking their performance. To then throw some of that performance away, via the AA filter, probably seemed anathema to the company. I can’t say that I disagree with that thinking.

John L. Hillelson has died. A great figure of 20th century photojournalism has left us. The “John Hillelson Agency” represented Magnum in London, but also Sygma and Viva. He collaborated with and sold the work of photographers including Henri Cartier-Bresson, Erwitt, Cole etc. I would need a book to name them all.

From Aperture and The Cleveland Museum of Art, Is This Place Great Or What by Brian Ulrich is the publication of his ten-year Copia project, documenting the consumer-centric atmosphere of contemporary America. The project grew from Ulrich’s curiosity at whether the 9-11 request of George W. Bush for Americans go out and shop to support the country was truly taken to heart. As economic turmoil overtook the country, it was clear that what Ulrich was documenting was a massive story. Separated into three sections, Is This Place Great Or What is a triptych of the collapsing American consumer system.

Over the weekend, more than 45 buildings across Athens were set ablaze by violent protesters. The fires began as the Greek Parliament passed a strict package of austerity measures, in an effort to meet demands by the European Union and the International Monetary Fund. The measures, which were prerequisites for a $170 billion bailout, included steep public-sector job cuts and a 20 percent reduction in the minimum wage. More than 80,000 Greeks reportedly demonstrated in the streets of Athens — among them, a small, violent group that hurled firebombs at riot police and set dozens of fires. More than 120 police and protesters were injured. The next step for the new austerity measures is implementation, and that may face strong opposition as well.
