On 15 March, the international Twenty Ten website was launched to the public. The site features photography, multimedia productions, articles and radio programs produced for Twenty Ten, a partnership project by World Press Photo, Freevoice, Africa Media Online and lokaalmondiaal. The content is created by journalists in Africa and inspired by the world of football in the broadest sense. With support from the Dutch Postcode Lottery, Twenty Ten looks at the integral role of football in African societies as the first FIFA World Cup on the African continent approaches. All of the content produced is available for sale to media worldwide that are interested in football stories from a unique African perspective.

French photographers Sophie Ristelhueber was awarded the 2010 Deutsche Börse Photography Prize today in a ceremony at The Photographers’ Gallery, London. The £30,000 ($45,900) prize, founded in 1996 and administered by The Photographers’ Gallery, is awarded to a living photographer who has made the most significant contribution to photography in Europe in the past year.

Kohei Yoshiyuki’s project, The Park, created in the 1970’s, will have it’s West Coast premiere at the M+B Gallery in Los Angeles, running from March 13-April 24th. As someone who lived in New York for many years, the idea of sex in a public park is not a new one. These images pack a powerful punch and Martin Parr put it best when he stated: “The Park is a brilliant piece of social documentation, capturing perfectly the loneliness, sadness and desperation that so often accompany sexual or human relationships in a big, hard metropolis like Tokyo.”

In 2005 I began to photograph the Carnaval of Rio, likely the biggest party on earth and certainly the largest expression of popular street theater in the universe. I’ve now been to Carnaval four times.
