  • Elizabeth Avedon

    From A Photo Editor:

I was corresponding with Elizabeth Avedon after I posted several pages from Rolling Stone Magazine’s seminal political photo essay “The Family” shot by Richard Avedon, because as it turns out Elizabeth was working in the photographer’s studio at the time designing the cover of the book “Portraits.” She was telling me some fascinating stories about working with Richard Avedon along with revealing the fact that she designed that issue of RS and so I asked her a few question. The first obviously was if she’s related to Richard to which she replied that at one time she was married to his son.

  • The Godfather: Steven Meisel

    09v.jpg

    From Style.com:

The other quality that characterizes Steven Meisel’s work is a strange kind of precision. “The thing that looks like Steven is an obsessiveness with an almost chilly perfection,” says Koda. “Even if the models are meant to look tousled, they are perfectly tousled,” he says. “There’s never a moment where there isn’t this intrusion of the photographer into a very controlled image.”

  • The Fast Food Job Application Prank

    application_02.jpg

From The Fast Food Job Application Prank:

In the winter of 2008, I started noticing that all of the fast food places near work had these little acrylic application holders out in the open. So, I got to work designing a new job application, with much more entertaining questions. All I had to do was remove the spaces for “the last ten places you  worked” and there was more than enough room for every question I could dream up.

To blend into any setting, I invented the fast-food conglomerate Serv-Joy. With this logo, a better name would be “GoatSe.rv-Joy”.

It was an application best described as absurd. My goal was to create questions that were ridiculous, contradictory and just a little seedy.

  • How ABC Interview Shaped a Torture Debate

    From NYTimes.com:

Mr. Zubaydah started to cooperate after being waterboarded for “probably 30, 35 seconds,” Mr. Kiriakou told the ABC reporter Brian Ross. “From that day on he answered every question.”

His claims — unverified at the time, but repeated by dozens of broadcasts, blogs and newspapers — have been sharply contradicted by a newly declassified Justice Department memo that said waterboarding had been used on Mr. Zubaydah “at least 83 times.”

  • Jude Buffum

    JudeBuffum_IchBin8Bit_1.jpg 1.jpeg

    From COMRADE Magazine:

I had always wanted to be an illustrator until the day my idol, Joe Sorren, was a guest speaker in my illustration class. He stuck around for our class critiques and when he got to my painting, he said, I shit you not this is exactly what he said: “I’m personally offended to have to talk about this piece, it’s THAT BAD.” I went home practically in tears, didn’t leave my room for a week, and almost dropped out of school. But I realized at that point I was a better designer than illustrator, so I stuck with graphic design.
