POYi Launches 67th Annual Photojournalism Competition
POYi is scheduled to release a preview of the 2009 “Call for Entries” on Tuesday, Dec. 8, offering an overview of all the contest categories and guidelines. Online registration and the entry uploading platform will be available at www.poyi.org on Friday, Dec. 18 and will conclude on Friday, Jan. 15.

Call For Entries: NPPA's 2010 Best Of Photojournalism Contest
The rules and categories for the National Press Photographers Association’s upcoming 2010 Best Of Photojournalism contest have now been posted online, and the Call For Entries has gone out to the world of visual journalism inviting all still and television photographers, photography editors, Web editors, and television editors to take part in the world’s second-largest photography contest.

Rick Valenzuela Wins 2010 Gordon Yoder Award
The National Press Photographers Foundation, Inc. has awarded multimedia editor Rick Valenzuela of The Phnom Penh Post the 2010 Gordon Yoder Award of $1,000 to assist with the expense of tuition and attending the National Press Photographers Association’s 2010 NewsVideo Workshop in Norman, OK, in March.

World Press Photo 2010 – soundscapes
The winner of the World Press Photo Award 2010 was Pietro Masturzo’s photograph of a group of women shouting from a Tehran rooftop in protest at the Iranian presidential results. To be sure, this is not what the photo shows (how could shouting be shown anyway?), this is what we are told that it shows.

WHNPA PROJECT GRANT – ANDREA BRUCE
Andrea Bruce, freelance photographer on contract for the Washington Post, has been chosen as the recipient of the White House News Photographers 2009 Project Grant. The grant total of $10,000, half from the WHNPA and a matching amount of $5,000 from PNY Technologies Inc., will fund ‘The Caucasus at the Crossroads: Ingushetia’s Decisive Moment’, which Bruce plans to publish in magazines, major news web-sites and a traveling exhibition in the Caucasus.

Best Of Photojournalism Still Photography & Web Judging Begins Sunday
Winners of each day’s categories will be announced daily here on the NPPA Web site. The Sports Photojournalist of the Year will be judged on Tuesday, and the Photojournalists of the Year (Large and Small Markets) and the winner of Cliff Edom’s “New America Award” will be announced at the end of the week.

Emilio Morenatti of the Associated Press has been selected as the National Press Photographers Association’s Best Of Photojournalism 2010 Photojournalist of the Year (Large Markets), and Greg Kahn of the Naples Daily News was picked as the Best Of Photojournalism 2010 Photojournalist of the Year (Small Markets).
