We have heard in the past that the 1Ds Mark IV would have a square CMOS sensor. Most people dismissed it as poppycock.

There’s more. The lens, a 28-105mm equivalent zoom, will open up to a nice, bright ƒ2.0 when used at the wide-angle end (falling to ƒ5.3 at the telephoto end) and the 3-inch LCD has a wide, 16:9 aspect ratio (a little weird for stills, but great for video). Finally, the sensor is a sensible 10MP.
The new Sony NEX series of camera use a 1.5X APS-C sized 14.2 MP CMOS sensor. The camera have a new lens mount called the “E-Mount”, and initially three lenses will be available; a 16mm f/2.8 Pancake lens, an 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 OSS, and an 18-200mm f/3.5-f/6.3 OSS.

Sony seems to have concentrated on making a solid, fairly gimmick-free offering. The 14.6 MP sensor is back-lit (the circuitry is on the back rather than the front of the chip) for good low-light performance (up to ISO 12,800), the LCD is a 3-inch 900,000 pixel monster and the processor is Sony’s Bionz (Bionic Fonz) chip found in its DSLRs.

The new version is the official release of the firmware first introduced as public beta v7.35 Build 12 late last year.
