The S3 features a 64-megapixel ProFormat sensor, up from 37.5 megapixels in the Leica S (Typ 007). It’s a sensor that delivers “impeccable performance in any lighting situation,” Leica says.

The Japanese website Nokishita just confirmed what I already reported yesterday: Leica will soon announce a new Leica S3 medium format camera. The new model is currently registered under the model name Leica HW64.

“Exceptionally discreet, the M10-P embodies the essence of the M philosophy and raises the traditional subtlety of the M series to an unprecedented level,” Leica says.

The Leica M10-P camera is now officially announced. The US price is $7,995.

I have some additional information to report on the rumored Leica M10-P camera:

The S-camera is beautifully designed and feels exceptionally good in your hands.  Like a lot of Leica cameras these days, Leica has not put any labels on the buttons.  This is an interesting move and speaking from experience it takes a bit of getting used to.  Once you get the feel of things though you don’t even notice it.

On my recent trip to the Leica Headquarters in Wetzlar, Germany, I had two discussions on the M–series cameras.  My first discussion was with Stefan Daniel, the Global Director of the Photo Business Unit.  Stefan shared the interesting history of the M–series camera and how it was nearly discontinued.  I then spent some time with Jesko Von Oeynhausen, the Product Manager for the M system.

This is the kind of camera that is small enough and easy enough to use that you will want to keep it with you all the time. If you are a Leica aficionado, then this camera will be a must-have for you. For others, this is a great entry-level Leica and you will surely be hooked on shooting with a Leica. 

In combination with the high-resolution, 24 MP, APS-C format sensor of the Leica CL, a Maestro II series processor and fast autofocus with 49 metering points guarantee maximum picture quality in all photographic situations. The Leica CL is not only an impressive still picture camera, this also applies to moving pictures captured with its video function at a resolution of up to 4K at 30 frames per second.

I find it interesting that the X-U hasn’t been talked about a lot more. This camera is small, compact, built like a tank, and waterproof, with a depth factor underwater at 49 feet. I took it to Hawaii and did my best to challenge its specs.

Leica made a fantastic camera in the Leica M10. It’s the most classic Leica I’ve seen in years, and it plays to all their strengths, while still maintaining all Leica look and feel that so many have come to love

Put simply, it was fun.  It made me think.  It made me want to work for the shot.  It’s a different way of shooting than using a zoom lens and 12fps autofocus.  I found myself focusing, composing, and waiting; anticipating the shot.  It was almost a zen-like experience.  It didn’t hurt that I was getting some nice images.  The M10 is unobtrusive.  It doesn’t stand out in a crowd, instead, it allows you to become part of the crowd.
