Most photographers try to establish a rapport with their subjects. Lord Snowdon prefers to let them stew a bit. “I’m not a great one for chatting people up because it’s phoney,” he says. “I don’t want people to feel at ease. You want a bit of edge. There are quite long, agonised silences. I love it. Something strange might happen. I mean, taking photographs is a very nasty thing to do. It’s very cruel.”
In the exhibition “Lalla Essaydi: Les Femmes du Maroc,” the photographer plays with stereotypes by placing Moroccan women in scenes from Orientalist paintings.
Lalla Essaydi is a Moroccan-born, New York-based photographer who has risen to prominence for her beautiful, striking imagery dealing with the role of women in Islamic societies.

“Guangzhou Supports You!” works like this: the organizers supply a “Guangzhou Supports You!” graphic (at right) that serves as the essential element of the entire activity. Participants simply need to choose a corner, alley, place, space, etc. in Guangzhou, take a photo with the graphic appearing somewhere in the photo, and then upload the photo to the official “Guangzhou Supports You!” website to share their affection for Guangzhou with everyone – that’s it.
