Adobe did not spring this on us in the worst possible way, but it’s way high up on the incompetence scale. Some of their strategy and marketing people need to be fired. I’m not kidding. Most of the whirlwind they are reaping is entirely of their own making and was entirely unnecessary.

The issue for photographers as explained in this photographyreview.com article and comments is the $20 a month you must pay to access your photoshop files. If you don’t pay, your files are “digital trash.”

The storm over Adobe’s move to Cloud Licensing

Sadly we all will lose on the financial front since to continue to use the latest version of Photoshop will mean paying more in aggregate for a yearly subscription than the previous cost of a version upgrade. What does this mean for professional photographers? For most of us, it will be a big change. CS6 will continue to be available as a perpetual license and will be supported through the next significant upgrade to the Mac and Windows operating systems. However, there will be no further development for that version. Going forward, if you want to use Photoshop, you will have to have a Creative Cloud subscription of some sort.
