    You’re still expected to make incredible pictures, but you also need to market yourself and make sure the business is making money. People graduating today find themselves swimming in a vast pool of freelancers, and a good photo education is one that teaches photographers a lot more than how to shoot pictures.

This new release of ShutterSnitch, which we’ve been using in beta form for some time, takes what was already a really useful workflow tool and moves it several steps closer to being a true killer app for photographers who need to send pictures from one or more wireless-capable digital cameras, or even those who simply need a better slideshow function than what’s offered in Apple’s own Photos app.

    In truth, manufacturers have been locked in a decade-long race for their lives as the camera product-cycle shrank from years to months and the race to ever-greater numbers of megapixels dominated the development and consumption subcultures.  But now we find ourselves at a plateau of sorts.  The megapixel race is largely over. Cameras are actually sticking around on the market long enough for people to actually wear them out. Perhaps the paradigm is shifting back to a development pace we used to see with film.  Perhaps it’s time for some real innovation to re-enter the equation.

    Nik Software released the fourth version of Color Effex Pro, their popular Photoshop, Lightroom, and Aperture plugin. Like Photoshop actions, CEP4 allows photographers to quickly combine multiple small adjustments into different treatments or filters. But unlike actions, and even its own previous versions, CEP4 has a stand-alone user interface that makes adding and blending multiple enhancements fast, easy, and intuitive. We spoke with Denver-based adventure sports photographer Lucas Gilman, one of Nik’s beta testers on CEP4, to find out how it integrates into his workflow.
