Why I created Condition One – the new immersive ipad news experience
My technology startup Condition ONE evolved from the inability to convey the reality of what I was seeing in Iraq and Afghanistan. Even though my images and documentary film were published and distributed widely, they were still a passive window into this world, constrained by the frame. I wanted to bring people closer, to actually let them witness these stories first hand.

Don McCullin’s war with guilt
He has, as he puts it, taken “terrible liberties” with his life — dashing through rice paddies in Vietnam to escape snipers’ bullets; jumping up to snap a shot during gun battles — to bring home images that are, at times, excruciating to look at but often unforgettable.

Hell and Back Again
As the Afghan war neared a decade’s worth of combat, casualties and headlines, the photographer and filmmaker Danfung Dennis was looking to jolt people’s consciousness.
“I was frustrated with photojournalism, and I was frustrated with society back in the U.S. being indifferent to the war,” said Mr. Dennis, who had covered Afghanistan as a still photographer in 2006. “I moved into video and new media to try to shake people up — to show the war’s brutal reality in an honest way.”

The Singled Person: An Interview with Peer Kugler
A: “The Singled Person” is a projection showing the work of eight photographers. There is one slide projector for each photographer. The projection is more like an installation, rather than an exhibition. At any point you can always see three or four screens at once. Because the projectors are not synchronized, it’s never the same. For example, sometimes the works of three photographers synchronize and tell you a story, but then they run apart again and each one is telling its own story again. This happens because each series has a different amount of slides in the tray. One has 25 slides, another 28 and another 32. Also, the projectors’ timers all have a slightly different setting. This makes the projection very organic.
