William Eggleston, a hero to so many photographers, finally agreed to talk about his art while a camera was running.
The Tenderloin is a downtown San Francisco neighborhood that is pretty sketchy and seedy. In fact, that’s part of its charm. Still, the (comparably) cheap rents make it attractive to a broad demographic, psychographic, and just plain psychos. A few months ago, Adam Jackson, 22, moved there and was surprised by the crack deals, violence, and general rabble-rousing outside his window. So he and his girlfriend set up a couple Web cams and a site, AdamsBlock.com.
in case you missed it. The New Yorker has posted an audio slideshow of “Tea And Wallaby: Photojournalists talk about memorable on-the-job meals”.
We at the Muse don’t believe that what works for TV works for the Web. We don’t believe in the inclination to make multimedia bigger and more flashy, but rather smaller and more personal. More precise. With craft. We also don’t believe that posting amateurish imagery, no matter how cheap to obtain, is going to help publications to balance their books. Readers have a high degree of visually literacy; it’s the pictures that are going to sell a story. If you agree, and if your hard-earned project isn’t getting the play you think it deserves, don’t allow it to go under-noticed. Fight the power. Stick it to The Man. Send it to the Muse

Michael Rubenstein, is over in Mumbai, India, and was there as the attacks escalated – he ended up distributing photos through The New York Times, and is now featured in an audio slideshow talking about his experience
I’ve had a chance to get a hold of the 5D MKII on several occasions – seven to be specific (2 of those nights were spent shooting the first film, Reverie.) I’ve felt compelled to try to create something with it each time I’ve had the camera in my hands. And I will admit this camera has brought me back the closest to the feeling I had at the age of 15 when I had my first camera and a few rolls of Tri-X to burn through. Simply put – it’s so much fun and pure.

“Always Be Rollin’…” That’s what we teach ’em at The Lenslinger Institute. So whether you’re a rent-a-cop, a shackled crackhead or just some bystander with a bad caffeine buzz, keep your meathooks to yourself. Or you could end up HERE where your lopsided drop-kicks and warbling cries of “Wolverine!” will echo long after your bitter spittle has all dried up. Don’t say we didn’t warn ya…..
Some striking photos and a worthy winner to this year’s World Press Photo competition, but where’s the joy asks Guardian head of photography Roger Tooth
This little video by David Burnett gives you a pretty good idea of the experience from the photographers point of view.
Today, November 06, 2008 — Elkie Lee Taylor, 47, convicted in the robbery and murder of 64-year-old Otis Flake in Fort Worth, Texas, will be executed by lethal injection. Five other men are scheduled for execution in November. How much longer will The United States continue to execute prisoners?
We’re happy to present another installment of a new series of interviews made at the Summit Workshop in Jackson, Wyoming. The series looks at the work of some of the nation’s leading photographers and editors, who offer both practical advice and plenty of inspiration. This episode features Chris Johns, Editor in Chief of National Geographic.
