I remember that when I first came to The New Yorker I would get very upset when people ignored that there were photographs in the magazine. I saw it as part of my job to have as many pictures as possible published in each issue. After all, I always had worked for magazines where photography was an essential part to their success. Gradually I realized that the challenge at The New Yorker was not how many but what kind of pictures we published.
