Richard Pipes, esteemed Journal photographer, dies at 78

Richard Pipes photographed space shuttles and spy planes, the aftermath of the terror attacks of 9/11 and politicians ranging from JFK and LBJ to President Barack Obama.

In a career at the Albuquerque Journal where he saw the transition from black-and-white to color, and film to digital, he flew in an F-16 and took pictures of everything from the drug wars to the U.S. military in action – both overseas and in New Mexico
