Mr. Faas was a brilliant planner, able to score journalistic scoops by anticipating “not just what happens next, but what happens after that,” as one colleague put it.
Horst Faas, a prize-winning combat photographer who carved out new standards for covering war with a camera and became one of the world’s legendary photojournalists in nearly half a century with The Associated Press, died Thursday. He was 79
Jim McCrary, the former A&M Records staff photographer who shot the cover of Carole King’s Tapestry and other rock-and-roll albums, died on April 29, 2012, “of complications from a chronic nervous system disorder,” the Los Angeles Times reports. He was 72 years old.
The bodies of the three photojournalists were discovered on World Press Freedom Day and less than a week after Mexico’s Congress approved a law granting protection to journalists who have received threats.

Paula remained committed to educating and inspiring others and it is extremely sad to lose her just as she was producing the finest work of her career.”
He returned to the office, satisfied that he had the best picture of the day.
“The bureau chief almost had a hemorrhage,” Mr. Stearns told the Annapolis Capital in 2009. “I never saw a man turn as white as he did because I was not with the entourage going to Arlington. Then the big boss from New York overheard that and he said, ‘You better have it or you’re fired on the spot.’ ”
