What do these phrases mean to you? “Circuit board”, “gearbox”, “dynamo and battery”? If your answer is “digital camera” then you are either cheating or you already know about the BigShot, a kit camera designed to let kids learn about digicams by building
During a recent “Navigating the Downturn” dialogue at the University of Texas at Austin’s College of Communication, four panelists discussed how to approach photography from a business perspective.
How do the revolutions in the media economy (detailed in the first and second post of this series) affect photojournalism? Given both the crisis in the distribution of information and the new opportunities for the structure of information, what futures are there for photojournalism?
The picture, by Nicole Bengiveno, ran at the top of The Times’s front page on Wednesday. What made Specialist Hill such a compelling focal point was not just his agonized posture. It was the low angle from which Ms. Bengiveno deliberately photographed him and the softer focus in which Ms. Bengiveno deliberately cast his comrades.
It’s with sad hearts that we lost a great person to tragedy this week. One of my closest friends, former SportsShooter.com member and fellow photographer, Chris Livingston, 36, was struck by a car and killed Monday, Nov. 10th, 2009 while riding his bike and training for a triathlon. He is survived by his wife Catherine, and their 2-year-old son Benjamin.

This update is the next step in that trajectory, something that’s a little more user-friendly, a little more centralized, and full of new stuff to explore. So get yourself a cup of coffee and make yourself at home. Click away and comment away. We’d love to hear from you.

Over the course of two days with the S2, I took about 700 pictures. The first day was half in studio and half outside. The following day was all outside. I shot mostly handheld as well as on a tripod, during the day and at night. I did my best to test out as many different shooting scenarios as possible to get a feel for the capabilities and limits of the system.
