A couple of months ago my friend Darko Stanimirović in Belgrade mentioned that he was hoping to organize some of his friends in town to create a Serbian street photography collective of sorts. Over the following weeks the groundwork for Belgrade Raw was developed through memorable nights full of Montenegrin wine and impassioned debates. I’m proud to present my friends’ efforts here and invite you to see some awesome work by six Belgrade photographers. I invited Darko to answer a few questions about the project:
BelgradeRaw is a collective of six photographers showing a different Belgrade. We don’t care about common touristic & glam stuff, instead we focus on real people and places.

Every decade has its photo-cliches. Back in the 80s we had the tobacco-grad, which would turn skies a smoky orange-brown. We also had the starburst filter which would add a cheesy sparkle to any highlights, just like the visual “ting!” in a toothpaste ad.

Basford, who had taken his camera, interviewed Rensberger once he was in custody. The officer asked him why he’d taken a photograph of a girl still on his camera. The photo is of a choir in the Town Center Mall. It was taken from the second floor of the mall, looking down. A figure is sitting, watching the choir in the bottom left of the frame.
“I’m not even sure it’s a little girl,” Rensberger said. “I said, ‘I didn’t know it was against the law to take a picture of an officer in uniform.’ He [Basford] said, ‘It’s not against the law to take a picture of a police officer unless they don’t want you to.’”
