Words can tell a story, describe emotions, and explain the facts, but they can never replace a powerful moment captured in a photograph. Compelling images offer a window into people’s lives, often depicting their reality with a unique perspective. For more than 30 years, MSF has sent photographers into its projects to document both MSF’s work and the people we are trying to assist. This is a collection of some of their best work, including images from award-winning photographers, both independent and affiliated with international newswires and photo agencies.

The MSF photo blog will be providing an daily image from our current work and archives, in an effort to make these exceptional images available to the public. We will draw from three decades of material in the many countries where we have worked, or work today.

  • Pyke_VeterantsComposite.jpg.jpeg

Steve Pyke’s work is the first that made me really think about portraiture – what it does, how it works. Last year, I was invited to join a panel on portraiture, and I was extremely excited about meeting him (he was one of the other panelists) and hearing him talk about his work. I used the opportunity to ask him whether he would be available for a conversation, and much to my delight he agreed to it.
